They tend to have simple to no required rotations, as opposed to other classes that require extreme piano player keyboard skills in order to pull of the complex rotations involved.

You can technically roam solo with any build if you're good. There are tons of videos showing 1vX for engineer, mesmer, thief, etc. If you're up against a halfway decent player and you're not up-to-par, it doesn't matter what class you choose -- you'll have a hard time.

Some champions are just kite monsters that have 1-shot autoattacks; whereas some you have to abuse some mechanic (e.g. moving around a tree to prevent it from hitting you).
